Volunteering Stories

Nicola Beresford, BSc (Hons), Sports Science, Classroom Assistant

Each week I got the fantastic opportunity to work with 35 children on a range of activities from science projects to writing classes. Working with these children was so rewarding, one to one sessions really gave me a sense of pride and group work helped me share my team work skills.
I know from the feedback I received I had a positive impact on most members of the school. I spent hours collecting resources, to help the teacher and the students use different ways of learning.
I gained so much pride from working at the school. I feel rewarded by knowing I played a part in helping the students reach their milestones in education. In this placement I developed many skills in planning, decision making and evaluation, skills that I’d like to share with another school or community when I volunteer again with CVCL next year.
