Good news story: Glenys Ford is Volunteering Lancashire Volunteer of the Year!

Glenys has been a constant arm of support for both her client who is living with Dementia, and his wife who is his full time unpaid carer. She has not only taken him out weekly, but has been visiting places where he grew up, in the hope of igniting some memories, so he has something to reminisce on and discuss. Things took a downward turn for the couple over the Christmas period, as they reached crisis point financially, their house began to fall into disrepair and the health of both deteriorated. Glenys offered to step in, supporting the gent twice a week to give his wife a break. Not only this, but she then became a volunteer with his wife too, supporting her as she struggled with no family or friends in the area, and she too received devastating news about her own health. Glenys’ consistent, non- wavering attention to this family has allowed both the support and respite needed to be able to stay in their own home, with no additional social care services needing to intervene.
