The University of Central Lancashire’s award-winning Centre for Volunteering and Community Leadership (CVCL) is noted for its work in developing community cohesion and active citizenship projects.
CVCL is a social enterprise that has delivered significant regional, national and international high-impact outcomes in the areas of youth development and community volunteering programmes alongside academic, vocational and bespoke Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses at UCLan.
We aim to engage, empower and enable everyone who comes into contact with our work in local, national and international settings.
Our world-class teaching and learning is underpinned by the educational philosophy of Paulo Freire. We offer students an exciting distance learning programme as well as the opportunity to study at our Preston and Burnley campuses.
We work with thousands of student volunteers and individuals with a passion for making a lasting impact on society whilst developing highly transferrable skills for education, employment and life on our community education, undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Extra-curricular accreditation and short community education courses are also available through the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and opportunities for further training and development are offered through our collaboration with the internationally recognised Freire Institute.
We have a strong network of partner organisations from social enterprise and voluntary, community and faith sectors which we collaborate with on a variety of projects. Our partnerships also enable us to arrange and provide training and community education. If you are interested in working with the Centre you can join our Partner Network here.
The Centre has also developed local, national and global partnership networks of over 500 schools and community centred organisations.
